Dont' forget, [info]wish_list is open for business!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Hi, guys!

Sorry that I haven't been around much, my lupus has really been kicking my butt the last couple of weeks. Add to that still needing to take care of mom every day and my energy levels haven't had very much left over to get me through the day. I'm feeling a little better though, my doc upped my meds again so hopefully that will help.

What this post is for is to remind everyone that Wish List is sitting there just waiting for this year's Wish Lists. It's time to get started on spreading some holiday cheer around. Especially this year when so many of us had had such hard years. We need to start making those extra smiles.

Please feel free to pimp the comm anywhere you want to. The more people we have participating, the more chances we have to do nice things for one another. :)

Stuff for Sale

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Hi guys,

Here's the listing of my and Mom's jewelry for sale. I'm going to have more stuff up later,I thought that it would be easier to separate out the jewelry from the other stuff. If you see anything you like and have any questions just drop me a note and let me know. I'll do my best to answer them. I'm hoping that with Christmas coming up soon that you guys might find some things you'd like to use as presents.

All of the earrings are either clip or screw on. Some of them, especially the pretty Rhinestone ones date back as far as the fifties. Mama always had some really pretty things but I know I'll just never wear them. This way we both hope that they'll go on to a good home where they'll be used.

Look over the list and let me know if you'd like to buy anything. If so, I can tell you what the postage would be from your zip code. As always, my PayPal addy is bstaton @ iglou.com.

Darn it!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I was hoping to get to go to Wincon. Still do but today just made it a lot harder.

Lee's been out of town the last few days, he was at the first of two work conferences scheduled for this month. He's on his way back today, should be home around 7:30. I've been driving the RAV, I had to get his tags replaced, get gas. It's been making a bit of a pinging sound so I was going to have it checked out. As I was coming down Taylorsville Road from getting his tags the oil and engine lights both came on. With visions of losing the engine entirely from a dropped valve I pulled over, put on the flashers and prayed not to get hit until I could get it towed to our mechanic.

They've checked it out and think that it might be the timing belt, which means that they'll have to pull the engine just to get to it. Which also means that it's going to cost us between 4 to 5 hundred dollars to fix it. We don't have a choice, Lee has to have his car to get back and forth to work. They said it should be ready sometime tomorrow.

This is a bad month for this to happen in anyway with the two work trips for Lee. Like I've said before, though they do reimburse us we always have to pay for his lodging up front. Just the one he's coming back from today cost us $405.00. Hopefully they'll get that back to us before he has to take the next trip the end of the month.

That's why I really don't know if I can justify even trying to go to Wincon, no matter how much I'd love to. Even if I try and go I'll probably have to bring mom with me unless I can talk Betsy into taking her a few days. Sometimes it feels like I'm just not supposed to do stuff like that. Especially since it's a frivolous expense and it's just for me.

I'm going to try and sell a bunch of stuff, see what happens. If it's meant to be it's meant to be. The car breaking down is probably the universe trying to tell me something. Just sucks a little though.

*hugs*

1) Been stung by a scorpion that went to University of KY with me one semester hidden in a pair of my jeans.

2) Chased a patient with DT's through a graveyard at three AM in the morning. I'll never understand whose bright idea it was to build a hospital right next to a graveyard any way.

3) Helped a doctor deliver a baby practically standing on my head in the cab of a beat up old pickup truck parked in the hospital's ER parking lot. Also in the wee hours of the morning. Night shift was always exciting at the little community hospital I worked at right out of nursing school. :)

Updated Sales list (Books & Music)

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Hey guys,

I'm going to be posting a bunch of stuff to sell, both here and over at EBay, the next little bit. Besides needing to try and start saving back for repainting the house we are beyond broke right now. With all the damage from the wind storms that came through here last weekend I haven't been able to work at all this week. Mom's daycare has been closed because of no electricity and I didn't have any one else to watch her. So, that means no paycheck for me and Lee doesn't get paid again until the 30th. So, I'm going to try to sell a bunch of stuff to help us get by.

I'll post the jewelry, both mine and mom's, in a separate listing from this. She's got a lot of beautiful costume jewelry pieces. Plus, I've got a bunch of comics I'll be listing as soon as I can get pictures made of them. I'm also going to try and sell my X-Men Resin art pieces; Wolverine, Rogue & Gambit. They're all limited editions and are still like brand new.

Much as I hate to, we're going to try and sell mom's antique Wormy Chestnut pieces; two bookcases and a Fireplace bench. I just have to figure out what to try and ask for them.

Anyway, here's the first batch of stuff. Let me know if there's anything that you'd like. I can do PayPal, my addy is bstaton @ iglou.com. We can add in what postage would be once I know your zip code.

Thanks so much, guys, for looking.

Waiting to Fall (the 'Can You hear Me Now?' remix) (R Sam/Dean implied)

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Today is author reveal day over in the [info]kamikazeremix Challenge. I drew [info]delphinapterus's story, Voices Over the Phone. But, because it was a companion to another story of hers, Who Can Afford It?, I mixed in elements of it as well. Mine is from Dean's POV since the others were Bobby and Sam.

This was my first remix story, ever. I just tried my best to do a good job and not screw up too badly. I was so happy to read that [info]delphinapterus really liked the angle that I took to tell my part of her tale. Knowing that really made my day. :)

Like I said before, there are a bunch of great stories over there. Everyone worked really hard, so go forth, read and comment. You'll be happy that you did. :)

Title: Waiting to Fall (Remix of both Voices Over the Phone & its companion piece, Who Can Afford It?)
Author: [info]digitalwave
Pairing: Dean/Sam (implied wincest)
Rating: PG-13, for language
Warnings: for language, implied Wincest & suggested violence
Spoilers: Up through AHBL, Part 2
Title, Author and URL of the original story: [info]delphinapterus – This story is a remix of both of the related stories; Voices Over the Phone (Bobby POV) & Who Can Afford It? (Sam POV)
Summary: Dean watches, horrified, as it all falls apart around them.
Notes: Thanks so much to my wonderful beta, [info]mickeym, you truly saved my butt. Thank you to our amazing mods for making this run so smoothly. And, lastly, thank you to [info]delphinapterus for letting me play in your words. I hope you think I did them justice.

Don't know why my warped brain decided to make remixing someone else's idea just a little bit harder, but it did. All of the first sections of the story are interconnected drabbles.

Tonight was a nice night...

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Amber comes here every day after school lets out. If her mom is off work she'll pick her up, like she did yesterday. If she's working until close at Tuesday Morning, which is about 7:30pm, then we'll take her home later. That was the case today so I called Suzie at work and told her I'd feed Amber before I brought her home.

I fixed fresh broccoli and carrots, stuffed baked potatoes and Lee grilled (4) boneless chicken breasts. Mom kept him company while he worked outside and Amber helped me with the rest of things inside. We had a ton of fun during dinner, laughing at lots of old stories and silly stuff. We talked about everything from old tv shows, to the trip to Japan that Amber's teacher wants to take her class on next year when she's a junior. We then moved on to movies and comic book heroes and villains. Which was really very appropriate. One of the things we laughed about hardest was when Amber used to get 'Joker' smiles whenever she ate a PB & J sandwich.

When Amber was little, still in preschool, Lee worked freelance so he was able to pick her up every day from daycare and kept her until Suz got off work. She loved his peanut butter sandwiches and somehow always ended up with a purple ring around her mouth whenever she ate them. She looked so cute! Lee said tonight that he really regretted that he never took a picture of her with her grape face on. :)

I try my best to fix healthy meals when I cook, lots of fresh stuff. I've always been proud of the fact that Amber will try new things for me. A good case in point is that she'd said she hated spinach but recently I made chicken with diced spinach, cheese and tomatoes baked on top. She was almost through the meal before she realized what she was eating and then she still finished. Tonight she told me how much she liked it and asked if we could have it again sometime so, yay! I consider that a total win. Especially since Amber mentioned that they mostly had stuff like Ramen noodles and instant rice at home right now.

Yeah, Suzie and Ricky can be out at every Peddler's mall in Louisville looking for more crap to buy but heaven forbid that they make sure they're feeding their teenager healthy meals at home. Much less getting her dental work she needs or having her eyes checked out. At least I can make sure that she eats well when she's here though so, hopefully, overall things will even out.

Where we're at right now...

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Hi guys!

Sorry I haven't been around as much as I'd like, things have been really hectic here, as usual.

I went with Amber the other day to get her registered at Atherton again. Hard to believe she's already a sophomore, huh? I also bought her a new book bag and some supplies when she told me her old one had a rip in it. Lee and I had already made sure she had enough jeans, shoes and shirts to start out the school year. Next we're going to need to see what we can do about braces and getting her eyes checked. I'm pretty sure she needs glasses and Suzie just keeps putting it off.

Heck, she hasn't been keeping up with most of what Amber needs lately. )

Wow!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
This news from Comic-con was just posted over on Newsarama:

The Legion of Super-Heroes is coming to Smallville, and the writer who's guiding the futuristic team in comic books will be the one introducing them to the show.

Geoff Johns, writer of next month's Final Crisis: Legion of 3 Worlds mini-series for DC Comics, will also be writing the Legion's introduction to the Smallville television show. As announced Sunday at San Diego Comic-Con, Johns will be writing "Legion," the ninth episode in this year's season 8 of Smallville.

"I've known the Smallville writing team – Todd [Slavkin], Darren [Swimmer], Brian [Wayne Peterson] and Kelly [Souders] – for a long time," Johns told Newsarama. "I had an idea for an episode, so we all had lunch. And I pitched them the idea of bringing the Legion of Super-Heroes to Smallville. And we're off and running."

You can read the rest of the article by following the link. I can't believe how excited about this I am. It seems like, for the first time in a long time, we may actually get to see the beginnings of the journey of Clark becoming Superman again. Geoff Johns is one of my favorite writers. He knows the Legion, he knows and 'gets' Clark. This news really brings a glow to my little fangirl heart. :)

I forgot to tell you guys something really neat earlier. Remember the con Lee and I help out with here in Louisville every year, WonderFest? Well, I went around to all of the TV and radio stations with Lee this morning to drop off media presskits for the show, it's in a couple of weeks.

Well, I saw the guy from our local CW again who is such a fan of WonderFest again. Remember last year when he scooped us early that we'd definitely been picked up for another season? Today he told me that the new season will definitely start on September 4th, not the 18th. I sure hope that he's right again. Heck, this week wouldn't be too soon for me. :)

Thanks, guys!

I wanted to say thank you for my nice birthday wishes and my pretties on my info page. They really brightened up both my day and my weekend.

I really needed it too, Friday night wasn't too much fun. We had really heavy rains here so you know what that means; I had flooding in our basement in my office area. Thankfully I'd gotten towels down and was able to control the flow of water toward the floor drain pretty well so my carpet stayed dry this time. I just had to do some minor mopping and keep an eye on things until the rains stopped.

Saturday was my birthday and it was a really nice day. Mom and Lee took me out to lunch/dinner and then we went to two of my favorite places for my presents who were both having major sales; Victoria's Secret and Bath and Body works. I got new undies and skin lotion and body spray. And we didn't pay full price for any of it. :)

The only thing that hurt was that neither Suzie or Amber even called to wish me happy birthday. I didn't want presents, I would have been happy for just a call. I don't think I've ever missed Suzie's birthday in her whole life, not even when I was away at college. But, I'm not letting her use me now so I guess she doesn't have to pretend she cares any more.

Mostly I hate it for Lee, I know that he really misses getting to spend time with Amber. They spent every Sunday doing stuff together for years. Now Suz is so busy trying to push her new boyfriend on Amber as her new daddy that she won't let them see each other at all. It's funny in a way. I've heard Suzie rag on her friends over and over about their dumping their friends and family for whatever new guys they were dating now here she is doing that very same thing. Like I've said before, I hope that this new relationship works out because she sure has been busily burning every family support bridge that she's ever had to be with him.

No luck unfortunately with my hard drive. Even after freezing it for days it still just clicked at me when I plugged it back in. So, my music videos, episodes and music mixes are all toast and I guess I won't be able to get them out of the drive. Thankfully I've found a few of them on my hard drive at work, and on a couple of thumb drives I have, but I've lost gigabytes of media.

I lost the whole third season of Supernatural except for the five eppies I had at work that I uploaded to share with you guys the other day. I'm also trying to go out and find some of the music mixes I lost. I can at least use my library listings from ITunes to know what names to look for. Do any of you have the fanmix for Supernatural called 'the Secrets That We Keep'? Or the Harry/Draco mix called 'So What if I like Pretty Things'? I know that I'll never be able to replace a lot of the music and interview videos I've collected over the years. It's sad but it still would never justify my spending the money on myself to try and retrieve the data off of the disk. There are just way too many things we need every single day for me to ever even consider it.

One of those just not sleeping nights so I thought I'd try and do something at least a little constructive. This is a present for [info]ladyjanelly who I know has had a very rough few days of it. Think of it as, hopefully, a bit of inspiration for that new AU story you're considering writing, sweetie. Or as a bribe, whichever works. ;)

The moral of the story is...

Back up your data, back up often. If you don't, if your hard drive crashes, you'll just lose loads of files that are precious to you that you'll never get back.

I found a company who is pretty certain they can get my data back for me, DTI Data, they're based in Pensacola, FL. They were part of the World Trade Center Project and were even able to get data back from those trashed drives. They have a great track record and loads of good customer reviews as well.

Unfortunately any kind of data recovery business like that comes with a huge price tag because they are used to dealing with big companies with deep repair cost pockets. Even with every possible discount they could give me, they're an authorized Western Digital Repair Partner, it's still way more than I could ever afford at $795.00. And that's not counting the cost of a new hard drive to send with it for them to back the data over on to.

So, what it boils down to is that I'm pretty much just out of luck. Thankfully it's not a one time only quote or anything, I'll see if I can sell enough stuff over the course of the next few weeks to warrant having it fixed. But it's hard to justify spending that kind of money on myself when I know that there are way too many other rl things we need it for instead. I know that we need to have the house painted this summer and that alone will be at least a couple of thousand dollars and that is much more important than my losing my music or all of my fannish files I've collected over the last few years.

So, like I said, guys, back up your data while you have the chance, you never know when a hard drive crash can just take it all away. Well, it's time to get mom over to day care. I'll be back in a bit to try and get some of my comments answered. See you all in a bit.

I just want to cry right now...

I'm sitting here at my computer when I should be sleeping, I've been troubleshooting it for the last few hours. I did something that's supposed to have been smart but I think that it's screwed me royally anyway. I turned off my computer for the time I was away just in case we got any bad storms. Even though it's on an UPS unit I didn't want to take any chances that we'd have bad storms while we were gone and have the computer take a hit. Now I wish that I'd just taken the risk.

We didn't get home until about 2am this morning, our flight was Las Vegas was delayed. We were so tired when we made it home we didn't even think about unpacking until this afternoon. When I got around to it the computer booted up just fine, no problems at all. Then, tonight I got a virtual memory shortage message so I powered down and rebooted the 'puter. Now my secondary hard drive won't spin up, it's just making clanking sounds at me. I know it could have been worse, at first I was afraid it was my primary drive with all of my software on it. But, by process of elimination I found out it was my D Drive. In some ways I wish that it had been, I can always reinstall everything if need be. Some of the stuff on D? I don't think can be replaced any mo
